Photographing At Night

For anyone who has tried to photograph an architectural building at night, the first thing you have to commit to is shooting during the famed golden hour photographers are always talking about. Or I should say 15 minuets! That’s a more accurate frame of time when it comes to photographing buildings at night, and nailing that deep blue sky at just the right moment.

When photographing the above building I had several obstacles to work though. First of all, it was
9:00 pm, I was alone, and in a neighborhood that was less than desirable. Not the kind of place you leave your camera gear unattended. It wasn’t until dusk approached that I discovered my next challenge, the interior building lights were on motion detectors with fairly short timers. Having no one there to help, I was left with only one method of turning all the building lights on, so I threw my tripod and camera over my shoulder, ran through each and every room in the building and quickly ran back to the only location I could find, where I could mask the one soffet light that was glairing in my lens behind an entry columns. Five running trips though the building later, I was exhausted, and had that one perfect deep blue sky picture I was looking for.

After selections have been made, then save the book as a keepsake or give it to a family member or dear friend. We design each book to your specifications and there are several options to customize the book to your style and needs. The book sizes include 8 1/2″x11″, 11″x8 1/2, 11″x14″ 0r 14″x11″ and you can choose between a photo softcover or a photo, linen, or leatherette hardcover (linen and leatherette come in a variety of colors). The photo covers will be design just for you! The amount of images on each pages will vary due to amount and how large you want each image to be.

Example below is an 14″x11″ photo hardcover book with six images per page (two down, three across).

Their happily ever after….

We were recently given the honor of photographing a family friend on her wedding day. Proceeding the wedding we meet up with the couple at Knights Ferry to shoot their engagement photos that they ultimately used for their wedding announcement and signature board.

The wedding took place just south of San Luis Obispo, hidden up in the hills, at the lovely venue of Tiber Canyon Ranch. The site was chock-full of character. There were vintage cars perfect for portraits, the bride and groom over looked a canyon as they said their vows, toasts were made with mason jars, and the bouquet and garter were tossed from the balcony of a barn. It was a beautiful day to celebrate a wonderful couple.
